ACM SwissCHI Annual Winter Meeting at University of University of Lausanne

What an incredible turnout this year. With more than 70 active Human-Computer Interaction researchers and practitioners from across Switzerland, the annual ACM SwissCHI Winter Meeting in Lausanne was a true highlight.

The Swiss Pre-CHI event offered a preview of 11 papers from Swiss institutions accepted at CHI’26, presented by their authors in engaging and insightful talks. Following a well-deserved coffee break and lively networking, a panel discussion brought valuable perspectives on funding opportunities and challenges for HCI research in Switzerland.

The meeting also marked an important moment for the community with the election of the new ACM SwissCHI board. It was an opportunity to warmly thank Thiemo WambsganĂź for his dedication and leadership over the past two years as president, as he passed the baton to the incoming board. Congratulations to April Yi Wang, Mauro Cherubini, Liudmila Zavolokina, Anton Fedosov, Chat Wacharamanotham, Florian Mathis, Simon Ruffieux, Doga Dogan, Verena Z., and Thiemo WambsganĂź on their election.

The fun continued with a visit to Pyxis, the “Maison de la culture et de l’exploration numérique” in downtown Lausanne, followed by informal drinks for those who wished to extend the discussions.

Thank you, everyone, for coming, and those who helped to organize. The event was made possible with the support of SIGCHI, ACM and University of Lausanne (hosted by Prof. Dr. Mauro Cherubini).

ACM SwissCHI annual summer meeting at Bern University of Applied Sciences

Group picture

The recent SIGCHI Summer meeting at Bern University of Applied Sciences attracted over 50 Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researchers and User Experience professionals from across Switzerland. After a series of different workshop sessions at the lovely Marzili Campus, we conducted a walking tour through the historic UNESCO old town of Bern, including passing the house where Albert Einstein lived.

Thank you, everyone, for coming, and those who helped to organize. The event was made possible with the support of SIGCHI, ACM and Bern University of Applied Sciences (hosted by Prof. Dr. Thiemo WambsganĂź).

We are already looking forward to our SIGCHI Switzerland meetup in beautiful Lausanne early next year! There will be lots of opportunities to present scientific works in the form of paper talks and poster presentations (including getting early feedback on research at early stage)!

Stay tuned and mark your calendars for February 10, 2026.

SWISSCHI members met at the ACM CHI Conference in Yokohama, Japan

Swiss CHI Community Meeting held in Lausanne on 7st of July 2022

After a longer COVID-break, the SWISS CHI Community met for a networking event on July 7, 2022, in Lausanne. Organized by our two board members, Mauro Cherubini from UNIL and Thiemo Wambsganss from EPFL, the aim of the meeting was to create a space for Ph.D. students, researchers, and practitioners from the Swiss Human-Computer-Interaction Community to connect and exchange research ideas.

After the introduction by the Swiss CHI president Prof. Dr. Johannes Schöning at the University of Lausanne, around 35 researchers and practitioners from around Switzerland were discussing topics around human-centered design, research visibility, and how to make the community a better space for junior researchers and Ph.D. students. For the second part of the event, the group was moving to the Vidiy beach at Lake Geneva to mingle around cool drinks and to enjoy the cooling water of the lake.

For anyone who could not attend this event, if you still would like to network with us, feel free to join our LinkedIn group to receive the latest updates: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12663120/

Between April 30 – May 5 2022 the annual ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems was taking place in New Orleans, United States.
